Celebrate holiday season with Hannibal Area String Orchestra on Dec. 4

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Area String Orchestra will present its annual Christmas concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the Roland Fine Arts Center, 2800 Palmyra Road.

The orchestra will play 11 pieces, each with a unique style to put you in the Christmas spirit. A sampling of the selection of Christmas and holiday songs include:

  • “Chant de Noel”
  • “A Hanukkah Prayer of Thanksgivings”
  • “Traditions of Christmas”
  • “A Solitary Wish”
  • “A La Media Noche”
  • “The Journey of the Magi”
  • “What Child Is This?”
  • “Deck the Hall”.

The organization is made up of three groups: the beginning and intermediate string orchestras, both directed by Katie Schisler; and the advanced string orchestra directed by John Ferguson. The string orchestra currently has about 45 members including piano, guitars and percussion on some pieces.

The public is invited to attend and admission is free. A free-will offering will be taken to help cover the cost of music and other expenses.
