Classes at Senior Center, JWCC offer opportunities to learn Latin dance, salsa, merengue

QUINCY — Two opportunities to learn how to dance are being offered in Quincy this fall.

Instruction to Latin Dance will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for six Mondays beginning Sept. 25. Classes are free, but donations are appreciated. The classes, in partnership with the Quincy Public Library, will be at the Quincy Senior Center. Contact the Senior Center at 217-223-5700 to reserve a spot.

A beginning salsa and merengue dance through John Wood Community College will be offered on three Wednesdays in October beginning Oct. 11, as well as three Wednesdays in November beginning Nov. 8. The cost for each class is $40. Learn the fundamentals of partnering dance floor etiquette, timing and basic footwork. Each participant must complete a separate registration form. If you register as a couple, note your partner’s name on your registration form.

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, a presentation called “Latino Dance: A Musical Education and History” is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 in the large meeting room at the Quincy Public Library. Participants can listen to Latino music and learn 11 kinds of Latin dance. Reyes also will be the instructor for this presentation.
