Encore! scholarship winners to attend summer camps in Illinois and Wisconsin

QUINCY — Encore!, the volunteer council of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association, recently announced this year’s recipients of music camp scholarships. The 10 recipients attending music camps this summer are:
Iysis Biggs, daughter of Sheila and Anthony Biggs, is a sophomore at Quincy Notre Dame High School. She plays violin with the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra and also plays in the QND band. She will be studying at McKendree University in Lebanon.
Keira Dolieslager, daughter of Jennifer and Erik Dolieslager, is a 10th-grade student studying with Acellus Academy. Keira, a violinist, serves as concertmaster of the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra and plays in the Quincy Symphony. She will attend camp at the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point, Wisc.
Allison N. Johnson, daughter of Larry and Kathryn Johnson, is an 8th-grade student at Hamilton CCSD. She plays bass clarinet and clarinet in the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra, as well as in her school band. She will be attending the Illinois Summer Youth Music camp in Champaign.
Jacob Mays, son of Andrew and Laura Mays, is a freshman at Quincy Notre Dame High School. He plays violin in the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra and plays in the QND band. He will attend camp at McKendree University in Lebanon.
Noah Schaefer, son of Chris and Beth Schaefer, is a junior at Quincy High School and plays in the QHS band. A clarinetist, Noah will attend the Illinois Summer Youth Music camp in Champaign.
Michael Spencer, son of Brian and Adair Spencer, is a junior at Quincy High School. A guitarist in the jazz band, Michael will be studying at the Illinois Summer Youth Music camp in Champaign.
Caroline Stevens, daughter of Bryan and Julie Stevens, is an 8th-grade student at Southeastern Junior High School. She plays euphonium in her school band, as well as in the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra. Caroline will attend the Community Music School Band Camp on the WIU campus in Macomb.
Samantha Tournear, daughter of Jennifer and Richard Tournear, is a junior at Quincy High School, where she sings soprano in the choir. She will attend the Show Choir Camps of America at Augustana College in Rock Island.
Savannah Tournear, daughter of Jennifer and Richard Tournear, is a junior at Quincy High School. In addition to the choir programs at the school, she sings alto in the Quincy Area Youth Chorus. She will attend the Show Choir Camps of America at Augustana College in Rock Island.
Cecelia Wayland, daughter of Jeff and Melissa Wayland, is a freshman at Quincy High School. She plays violin in the school orchestra, as well as the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra. She will attend camp at McKendree University in Lebanon.
This is the 69th year these camp scholarships have been awarded. They are funded by the estate of Martha McCrory and by Encore’s fundraising events such as the Fairy Tale Tea and the Battle for the Baton. Encore believes in the importance of music in the lives of youths. Its primary mission is the support of the symphony’s youth music programs.
