From food truck to candy wonderland: Meet Sweet Caroline

QUINCY — At just 23 years old, Caroline Weisenburger is living a dream that feels straight out of a childhood fantasy.
She’s the owner and visionary behind Sweet Freeze, a whimsical freeze-dried candy store that looks like it was plucked straight out of Willy Wonka’s wildest dreams. Bursting with color, nostalgic charm and the latest trending treats, her storefront is a full-on sensory experience for candy lovers of all ages.
What started five years ago as a humble ice cream truck called Sweet Tweets has transformed both Caroline’s business empire and her life.
“This is really all I do. I work six days a week from 11 to 6 and sometimes I’m here a little bit early, and sometimes I stay late. So, I really like to just chill out in my little free time,” she said.
Caroline was only 18 when she rolled out her pastel-painted truck, serving up sweet treats with a smile at local festivals. Her creativity, paired with her entrepreneurial spirit, quickly gained attention. But it was her innovative dive into freeze dried candy that truly sets her apart.
The storefront shelves are stocked with freeze-dried favorites – think crunchy versions of Skittles, taffy and many other name brand sweets – as well as a curated collection of nostalgic candies that take customers down memory lane. And she’s always ahead of the trends, too. One of the hottest items flying off her shelves is the viral Dubai Bar. (Which is worth the hype – OMG.) She’s giving the Easter bunny a run for his money as the storefront is Easter ready, so get in there today to grab something special, and locally made for your basket.
Sweet Freeze is open Tuesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1828 Broadway in Quincy. They offer free samples of freeze-dried candy. The Sweet Tweets ice cream truck will makes its seasonal grand reopening at the downtown Dogwood Festival on Saturday, May 3. Find her on Facebook for more information.
