Gray Gallery to host baccalaureate-senior retrospective for Payson student on Friday
QUINCY — Quincy University’s Gray Gallery will host the annual Baccalaureate-Senior Retrospective through May 13 in the Brenner Library. An artist reception will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 21 in the gallery.
This one-person exhibition features senior Peyton Wiseman from Payson. It is a comprehensive showing of works created during his time at QU with the focus area in graphic design.
In a press release, Wiseman said, “I believe art is the quality with which anything in any capacity can be observed, pondered, heard, felt or tasted in a manner that can be enjoyed or hated by an audience. Art is a created thing that involves time and effort to develop, which can often hold meaning beyond that which is apparent and visible on the surface level of understanding.”
The baccalaureate show is the capstone of the senior experience through which an art major makes the transition from student to professional. The candidates prepare a comprehensive portfolio of work, assessing strengths and areas for improvement. The students participate in a senior seminar that enables each to focus on particular facets of development as an artist. During the final semester, the students collaborate to plan a professional show, design the display area, prepare publicity, develop the catalog and arrange a reception.
This exhibit is free and open to the public.
