Hannibal Area String Orchestra rehearsals to begin Saturday; new members welcome

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Area String Orchestra will begin rehearsing for their spring 2023 concert Saturday, Feb. 4. Individuals wishing to become members are welcome to join the group at the first rehearsal.

The organization is made up the Beginning String Orchestra, Intermediate String Orchestra and the Advanced String Orchestra directed by Katie Schisler with John Ferguson as assistant director. The string orchestra has about 45 members, including piano, guitars and percussion on some pieces.

Rehearsals are held on Saturday mornings in the Roland Fine Arts Center on the Hannibal–LaGrange University campus, 2800 Palmyra Road. The schedule is:

  • 9:15-10 a.m. – Beginning String Orchestra
  • 10:10-10:55 a.m. – Intermediate String Orchestra
  • 11:05-11:50 a.m. – Advanced String Orchestra.

The theme for the year is music from movies.

The mission of the Hannibal Area String Orchestra is to bring fine string orchestra music to the people of Hannibal and surrounding area, to provide an organization for local musicians to perform string orchestra music and to provide a way to encourage young string players to continue the experience of performing string orchestra music.
