HANNIBAL, Mo. — Sam Schisler is the recipient of the 2024 Hannibal Arts Council Past President’s Scholarship. 

Schisler, a son of Stephen and Katie Schisler, has a strong background in instrumental music and excelled in all academic courses.  Schisler was involved as a percussionist/drummer in Hannibal High School’s concert, jazz, marching and pep bands. He also dedicated many hours to cross country and track and also attended Boys State in 2023.

In the fall, Schisler will pursue a jazz studies (percussion/drums) degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, an internationally recognized center for artistic excellence, innovation and engagement with communities.

Schisler has been involved with the Hannibal Arts Council since a young age and most recently in community organizations like the Hannibal Area String Orchestra and Hannibal Area Swing Association’s jazz combo.

The Past President’s Scholarship is given annually to a Hannibal High School student active in arts-related studies with educational and career goals in any of the following areas: visual, theatrical, vocal, instrumental, dance and literature.
