Hannibal Arts Council showcases talents of artists with developmental disabilities

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Arts Council presents “Celebrate the Artist in You,” an exhibit highlighting the creative talents of people with developmental disabilities on display through May 17 at the HAC gallery.
This annual exhibit is a collaborative effort with the Hannibal Regional Office of the Missouri Department of Mental Health–Division of Developmental Disabilities, representing an eight-county region surrounding Hannibal. Several local agencies that support individuals with developmental disabilities also participate in the event.
“We are honored to partner with the Hannibal Regional Office each year to host this exhibit,” HAC Executive Director Michael Gaines said in a press release. “It’s a true joy to work with agency staff and share the original artwork created by these talented individuals.”
A highlight of the exhibit is the People’s Choice Awards, where visitors can cast their votes for their favorite pieces.
Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is closed on Sundays.
The exhibit will conclude with a closing reception and awards ceremony at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.
