Hannibal Arts Council to offer basket weaving workshop Saturday

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Arts Council will host a basket weaving workshop with Pat Moore from on Saturday, June 15, at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until participants’ baskets are complete.

The workshop will include instructions for weaving and assembling a twill Nantucket basket. Students will get to choose between making a 5-inch or 6-inch diameter basket. The workshop will begin with a brief discussion on the art of basket weaving and weaving techniques using baskets made by the instructor as examples. All supplies will be provided including necessary tools, basket base, rim, lid and additional weaving supplies needed to complete the basket.

Moore, from New Haven, Mo., made her first basket in 1999 and has made more than 4,100 baskets since. She taught basket weaving at the Vocational School in Washington, Mo., and currently teaches basket weaving and chair caning in her home studio with a following of approximately 75 students.

Class size is limited to 12 participants, six per basket size (5-inch/6-inch). Cost for the workshop is $115, and registration is required. To register for the workshop, visit https://hannibalartscouncil.eventbrite.com, call 573-221-6545 or stop by the HAC, 105 S. Main.
