Home is where The Find is

924 State is where you'll find Jordan Bergman's The Find Submitted photo.

QUINCY — It has been about five years since Jesse Stephenson was inside 924 State Street where her grandma lived. The house has been recently converted into a very popular pop-up boutique called The Find for the month of December, giving both Jess and her cousin, Lindsey Milane, an opportunity to walk back through time and visit grandma’s while doing a little shopping.

The Find is a high-quality fashion boutique owned and operated by Jordan Bergman. The boutique offers a different kind of shopping experiences by providing options both from the comforts of your phone with easy online shopping, or in person at her many pop-up events.

Things are always changing, including the fashion trends themselves. Jordan attends market twice a year in Las Vegas for the latest fashion trends and then she pre-orders them seasonally to allow for a manageable inventory.

Jordan attended Western Illinois University for fashion merchandising and business and started working at The Buckle in 1999. After working there for over twenty years and being the face of our local Buckle store, she quit in February 2019 and started The Find shortly thereafter in April 2019 and has been providing the community with confident style through fashion ever since. Being her own boss, along with the freedoms it provides was one of the biggest pushes for that change.

The Find has held a temporary holiday shop for the past three years in locations downtown within other boutiques. This holiday season The Find found its way home to the house that Jordan and her husband purchased at 924 State on November 4, 2023. She moved her shop in as is on Black Friday with plans to be there until the end of the holiday season. It served as an Air BnB prior to that with the previous owner, and she has plans to return 924 to that purpose after The Find’s stay. The boutique is open for the rest of the holiday season with tentative hours usually Wednesday through Saturday. You can find her hours of operations or shop directly on her website at www.thefind.shop or connect with her on social media.

Jesse and Lindsey walked around the house remembering what was where. They were in what is now the dressing room and Jesse laughed almost tearfully. “This was grandma’s bedroom where Nathan (Lindsey’s older brother) and I used to sneak cigarettes out of her dresser that was right there.” Lindsey added looking at Jesse, “yeah and this the room that you spit gum into my hair.” Jesse snickered and admitted she tortured Lindsey when they were kids. Years of maturity and love later, they were in that room together sharing memories that “tugged at their heart strings.”

Jordan, Jesse and Lindsey exchanged stories about the house, it’s ownership turnover and grandma’s ghost. Don’t worry she sounds more like Casper than Madame Leota. Jesse and Lindsey made potential plans to rent the Air BnB from Jordan for a weekend and have a night of nostalgia. It’s not every day that you get to step back into time and revisit properties you had to move on from or say goodbye to.

Casper the Friendly Ghost

A lifetime in a town like Quincy builds a lot of connections.  Sometimes those connections are the places we have lived, the buildings where we worked, the homes we frequented.  When we come back to places that were meaningful to us after years of change and ask the new owner for a peak around, we are bound for nostalgia.  And in this instance, awesome clothes for sale.

Take a breath and walk inside.  Who knows what you might find?
