Service of nine Lessons and Carols (flyer)

QUINCY — Quincy University’s campus ministry and choral departments will be the host the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis Solanus Parish, 1721 College Avenue. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments in the parish hall will follow.

“Lessons and Carols is an ancient service still continued today in numerous Christian denominations. The campus ministry and choral departments hope this will become a tradition in the Quincy area for students and community members to come together and prepare themselves for the advent and Christmas season through scripture and song,” said sophomore Jesse Mose, coordinator of music and liturgy.

Nine Lessons and Carols explores the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus told in nine short Bible readings or lessons from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and choir anthems. Under the direction of Mose and Kristin Ramseyer, assistant professor of vocal music, the QU Chamber Choir and friends will perform a number of carols and readings.
