QU choirs to perform vocal celebration, gospel mass concert at two locations on Sunday, Thursday

QUINCY — The Quincy University Music Department’s Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Hawks of Harmony will present the Vocal Celebration and Gospel Mass Concert on Sunday, May 4, and Thursday, May 8.

The QU Choir concert on Sunday will be held at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 739 N. Eighth. The concert on May 8 will begin at 7 p.m. in the Connie Niemann Center for Music, 17th and Seminary Road.

Both evenings will offerc sacred music, a spiritual, a tribute to Stephen Foster, Renaissance and Romantic styled motets and a variety of vocal jazz ballads. The second half of the program will feature the “Gospel Mass” by Robert Ray, a six-movement, sacred Mass setting in the style of African American gospel and jazz.
