QU Hawk Express Jazz Band presenting fall concert on Sunday at Niemann Center for Music

QUINCY – The Quincy University Hawk Express Jazz Band will present its fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 at Quincy University’s Connie Niemann Center for Music, 17th and Seminary Road.

The jazz band will perform a wide array of jazz tunes — “By George,” “Hep Cat Blues,” “When I Fall in Love” and “Crankcase.” Daxtun Heier, junior music education minor, will be featured on the piano on the piece, “Killer on the Keys.” Vocalist John Beisner will be featured on the classic big band tune, “Minnie the Moocher.” Senior tuba player Joe Niemerg will be featured on the piece “Gums.”

The jazz band is under the direction of Christine Damm, dean of the school of fine arts and communication. The concert is free and open to the public.
