QUINCY — Quincy Art Center is offering more than 20 classes and workshops this fall for children and adults, including the addition of a special Wednesday night pottery wheel-throwing experience.

The Art Center fall class schedule kicks off during the first full week of September with Wednesday Night Wheel-Throwing for students ages 15 and older. During this one-night clay wheel-throwing experience, students will receive 30 minutes of instruction on how to throw on the pottery wheel. Afterward, students will have up to two hours of independent work time on the wheel with the assistance of our qualified in-house instructor. This one-night experience will occur every other week beginning Sept. 6 through Dec. 13. This offers a great chance to try out a pottery wheel before committing to a longer class.

For students ages 15 and older who are looking for a more in-depth clay class, the Art Center is offering Beginning Wheel Throwing, The Fundamentals of Clay Hand Building (both beginning the first week of September) and Intermediate Clay Hand Building this semester.

Local fiber artist Carol Clay Mann will be leading a four-week Basics of Knitting class in October, as well as workshops in felting and silk painting throughout the semester.

Children ages kindergarten through 8th grade also have the opportunity to get creative with clay this fall. Six-week classes broken down into ages kindergarten-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade and 6th-8th grade will help students to develop fine motor skills, creative thinking and more through clay art activities.

Another three-week block of youth classes will begin in November focusing on the art of printmaking.
