Quincy Civic Music Association announces dates for five performances during 2024-25 season

QUINCY — The Quincy Civic Music Association recently announced its lineup of concerts for the 2024-25 season, featuring a variety of performances from strings, steel drums and vocals to brass and ballet.

Turtle Island Quartet performs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, in the Baldwin Elementary School gymnasium. Since its inception in 1985, the Turtle Island Quartet has been a force in the creation of bold, new trends in chamber music for strings. Winner of the 2006 and 2008 Grammy Awards for Best Classical Crossover Album, Turtle Island Quartet fuses the classical quartet esthetic with contemporary American musical styles.

Iowa Brass takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Kroc Center. Founded in 1986, Iowa Brass takes the stage for a holiday show with the sound of 35 brass musicians performing holiday favorites and brass band arrangements. Iowa Brass is the state’s premiere British-style brass ensemble and recently finished in third place in the U.S. Masters competition.

Candice Hill, percussionist and steel pan (steel drum) performer and instructor, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the State Theater. Hill is a clinician and adjudicator for drumline and school percussion. She has performed in Trinidad with Skiffle Bunch in Panorama. Hill also performed as a guest artist in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska and Illinois.

The Grammy award-winning vocal supergroup säje will perform at 7:30 p.m. March 1, in the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium on the John Wood Community College campus. säje is the brainchild of vocalist/composers Sara Gazarek, Amanda Taylor, Johnaye Kendrick and Erin Bentlage. The group won its first Grammy for its arrangement of “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning” in collaboration with their friend Jacob Collier.

Cinderella with the Chicago Festival Ballet will perform at 7:30 p.m. June 7, in the Morrison Theater at Quincy Junior High School. Kenneth von Heidecke was chief choreographer for VH Dance Center and founder and choreographer of Von Heidecke’s Chicago Festival Ballet. Von Heidecke was an internationally renowned choreographer for opera and ballet companies, having choreographed more than 60 operas and 80 ballets.

Tickets may be bought at the door or at Square Music Company, Sturhan Jewelers, HyVee and Niemann’s in Quincy. High school students and younger may attend at no cost. Faculty, staff and students from JWCC, Quincy University and Culver-Stockton College gain free admission with their school ID. A single admission ticket is $25; season tickets are $100. QCMA has ticket reciprocity agreements with The Hannibal Concert Association and The Keokuk Concert Association.
