Quincy Community Theatre announces ‘Disney’s Moana, Jr.’ Discovery Night; tickets now on sale

QUINCY — Quincy Community Theatre will have an interactive Discovery Night event for its upcoming production of “Disney’s Moana, Jr.” at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 at Quincy Community Theatre.

Discovery Night is open to the public. There is no cost to attend. Registration is not required. Attendees may optionally RSVP to the event on Quincy Community Theatre Facebook page.

In a press release, Brendan Shea, QCT’s head of education and director of student theatre, said, “Discovery Night puts front-and-center the ‘education’ part of our mission. Every production is a chance to learn, and this particular story challenged us to learn more about the cultures, traditions and languages of Oceania. In addition to providing a sneak peek of the show, our cast looks forward to sharing some of their research with the community.”

Shea and artistic director Brandon Thomsen will be the hosts of “Disney’s Moana, Jr.” Discovery Night. Members of the show’s production team also will be present. The interactive event will allow the audience to participate in a question-and-answer session with the cast, crew and production team. A selection of props will also be on display. Discovery Night will culminate with a live rehearsal on stage in the Barbara Rowell Auditorium.

The musical stage adaptation of Disney’s popular 2016 film will take the stage at Quincy Community Theatre Feb. 23-26. This will mark the first production in QCT’s 2023 season that will celebrate the theatre’s 100th year as a pillar of the local arts.

This main stage student theatre production is under the direction of Shea. The production team consists of vocal direction by Daxtun Heier, choreography by Shawn Jones and Mekia Gay, scenic design by Sabrina Brookshire, lighting design by Brian Zipp, costume design by Ethan Henry and stage management by Cathy Gooding.

Tickets for Disney’s Moana, Jr., start at $17 and go on sale Monday, Jan. 30. Performances are Feb. 23-24 at 7:30 p.m. and February 25-26 at 2 p.m. Seating is reserved.
