Quincy University announces POLIS fall 2024 schedule

QUINCY — Quincy University recently released its Pursuit of Learning in Society (POLIS) fall semester class schedule. POLIS is an opportunity for lifelong learning for seniors. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming.

POLIS Fall 2024 class schedule:

  • Sept. 11: Running Ahead of the President – Michael Ruemmler
  • Sept. 12: Fermilab, World Class Physics in Illinois – Richard L. Schmitt
  • Sept. 19: Narrative Identity – Kristina Mousakis
  • Sept. 24: Improve Your Innovative Thinking – Roger Leenerts
  • Sept. 27: No Religious Test Clause – John Schafer
  • Oct. 4: The Positives and Pitfalls of Philosophical Thought Experiments — J.K. Miles
  • Oct. 8: RAMAYANA – Meenal Mamdani
  • Oct. 9: Bus Trip to “Ragtime” at STAGES St. Louis
  • Oct. 15, 22, 29: Between Almost Paradise and Hell on Earth: The POW Experience in the Second World War – Wendell Mauter
  • Oct. 23: The Prospects for Liberal Education – Neil Wright

  • Nov. 7, 14, 21: Jerusalem through the Ages — Patrick Hotle
  • Nov. 12: Exploring Lincoln’s Breakdown in Quincy, IL — Iris Nelson
  • Nov. 15: Tumultuous Liberty: Major Slave Rebellions before the United States Civil War – J. Matthew Ward
  • Nov. 19: Nineteenth Century Women and Their Roles during the American Civil War — Arlis Dittmer
  • Nov. 22: Mental Resiliency: Utilizing positive psychology to assist in achieving authentic happiness in your life — Lindsey Reichert

All classes meet from 2-4 p.m. at North Campus, North 18th Street and Seminary Road, with signs to indicate directions to the classes. The cost of a POLIS membership is $15 per semester, and each two-hour class is $5. If someone has never attended a POLIS course, they can attend one course free of charge.

The POLIS bus tour trip to “Ragtime” at STAGES St. Louis is scheduled for Oct. 9. The fee is $145 for POLIS members, which includes transportation, lunch at Café Provencal, and admission to the theater. The bus will leave QU North Campus at 9 a.m. and return at 7:15 p.m.

Register in person from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at North Campus, Main Entrance Conference Room. Use circular drive or Lot K from N. 18th St.
