Square Peg Group Troupe to present Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ Friday at State Street Theater
QUINCY — Square Peg Group Troupe will present William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy “Twelfth Night” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the State Street Theater. This production brings mistaken identity, unrequited love and hilarious antics to life in one of Shakespeare’s most beloved works.
“Twelfth Night” follows twins Viola and Sebastian, who were separated during a shipwreck. Viola disguises herself as a man, Cesario, and enters the service of Duke Orsino, who pines for Countess Olivia. When Olivia falls for the disguised Viola, the comedy of errors begins. Meanwhile, Olivia’s mischievous court plays a trick on her stern steward, Malvolio, convincing him that the countess is secretly in love with him, creating even more chaos.

Founded in 2011, Square Peg Group Troupe specializes in performance art and Shakespearean works. Originating from Quincy but with members from across the country, the troupe grew out of the Summer Stock Players and has a reputation for vibrant and accessible performances.
In a press release, Hernandez, one of the troupe’s leads, shared her enthusiasm for bringing Shakespeare to life saying, “The best thing about seeing and hearing Shakespeare performed is realizing his work isn’t the stodgy, uptight, untouchable dead words you’ve been led to believe. It’s alive. Shakespeare transcends time. He is fun, funny and relevant.”
