QUINCY — The Quincy Sunday Music Series opens its new year at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Church, 16th and Hampshire, with its “Carol Mathieson and Friends: Colleagues in Concert” recital.

Mixing non-traditional music with Sunday Music’s usual blend of classics and favorites, this year’s concert showcases the artistry of faculty colleagues and friends from Culver-Stockton College performing in diverse styles such as familiar lyrical arias and art songs alternating with freshly-composed avant-garde pieces.

Pianist Dylan Marney, tenor Scott Allison, and mezzo-sopranos Lisa Blake and Amy Stollberg, along with instrumentalists Trent Hollinger on the saxophone and Aren Van Houzen on the trumpet, join Mathieson, a soprano as she opens the new year for the Sunday Music Series for the 47th consecutive time.

QSMS has welcomed the public to recitals of fine chamber music offered by regional artists for more than 85 years free of charge, but donations are appreciated.  For audience safety amid continuing COVID concerns, masks are required and social distancing is provided.
