Top Hannibal High School art awards from Young Masters exhibit announced

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal High School art instructors James Zimmerman, Lisa Wiese and Christina Strode have announced the top awards from the Hannibal High School portion of the annual Young Masters exhibit at the Hannibal Arts Council from April 1-29.

Pieces/students winning the top three 2025 HHS awards were:

  • Best of Show winner – “How Funny” an oil painting by Sidney Zimmerman
  • Best 2D winner – “In Thought”a charcoal drawing by Matilynn Harvey
  • Best 3D winner – “Polypus” a clay sculpture by Madison Leake

Second Place (in no particular order)

  • “Manic” by Kenneth Ray
  • “Totem of My Childhood” by Cena Major
  • “Green Dress” by Paityn Murphy
  • “The Skull of the Sea” by Ryann Borden

Honorable Mention (in no particular order)

  • “Untitled Watercolor” by Jaelyn Messina
  • “Mushrooms” by Brylee Standley
  • “Park Day” by Stormy Lewis
  • “Into the Sea” by Ashley Davis
  • “Calla Lily” by Mia Viorel
  • “Monster Drink” by Elijah Coates
  • “Summer Break” by Daniel Kibbler

The exhibit was sponsored by General Mills Hometown Grantmaking Program, Riedel Foundation, Community Foundation of West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri, Hannibal Arts Council and the Missouri Arts Council.
