BARRY, Ill. — John Ator, a senior at Western High School, recently published his first graphic novel, “Thunder Bread.” This project began as an independent study course at the high school.

Ator utilized Adobe InDesign to bring “Thunder Bread” to life. The graphic novel is now available on Barnes and Noble’s online platform.

Ator also has launched a website, https://bit.ly/ThunderBread, where fans can learn more about his creative process, upcoming projects and exclusive content.

“Seeing my work come to life and being able to share it with others has been an incredible experience,” Ator said in a press release. “The independent study course at Western High gave me the time and resources to develop my skills and turn my vision into reality. I’m grateful for the support of my teachers, family, and friends throughout this journey.”

Ator is working on his second graphic novel.

William Schaffer, John’s teacher, praised John’s achievement.

“John’s success exemplifies the incredible potential of our students when they are given the freedom to explore their passions and develop their skills,” Schaffer said. “We are immensely proud of him and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.”
