Winners announced for 11th annual JWCC student Show and Sell art exhibit
QUINCY — John Wood Community College’s 11th annual student “Show and Sell” spring exhibit in the Heath Center Art Gallery is open until May 5.
This year’s show features pieces of artwork submitted by nine JWCC students. Judges were Lydia and Tim O’Neal and Jamie Green. Judging criteria included the overall impression of the artwork, level of creativity, quality and the artistic skill demonstrated.
The top winners include:
- E. Olivas (Best in Show, “Conversations,” charcoal drawing)
- Keyana Wray (first place, “Still Life: Found Objects,” ebony pencil)
- Gaven Mellon (second place, “Reflections in the Void,” digital art)
- Wendy White (third place, “Rainbow Pour,” acrylic paint)
The winners will receive a certificate and cash prize sponsored by the JWCC Foundation.
Receiving honorable mentions were:
- E. Olivas (“Dissociation,” collage)
- Keyana Wray (“Delicate,” ebony pencil)
- Ethan Huber (“Melting Man,” pen and ink)
Some pieces are for sale. Students keep the majority of the proceeds to jump-start their art and design careers. The college retains a portion of each sale to enhance the arts education program at JWCC through the foundation office.
A silent auction features artwork by former JWCC students. Bids will be accepted through Friday, May 5. Proceeds benefit the gallery fund through the foundation pffice.
