HANNIBAL, Mo. — Area professional and non-professional artists submitted images of original works for the ninth annual Art in the Open billboard art competition. There were 183 entries submitted this year, including 133 entries in the adult division and 50 in the youth division.

Adult division winning images to be featured on a digital billboard are “Pond Bunny” oil painting by Joachim Knill of Hannibal, “Sunset Reflection” photograph by Timothy Spencer of Quincy and “My 1957 Buick” painting by Brandon Todd of Hannibal. The winning image in the youth division is “Dancer” by Maddie East of Coatsburg, Ill.

The selection committee chose one top winner in the adult division and then selected finalists to create a Facebook contest for the public to determine the two additional adult division winners and the youth division winner. More than 1,800 votes were cast in the contests.

Art in the Open winners will have their work featured on the Robinson Outdoor digital billboard at the intersection of Broadway and N. Maple Ave. in the coming months. The images will be shown for two weeks each month for the next six months.

The contest is sponsored by the Hannibal Arts Council in partnership with Robinson Outdoor.

Youth division winning entry was Dancer by Maddie East
