MACOMB, Ill. — The Western Illinois University Marching Leathernecks recently secured a top-six spot in the Division I category of the popular Metallica competition.

Metallica invited marching bands of all levels across the nation to participate in a competition where bands can showcase their skills by crafting unique and impressive performances of Metallica’s music. Hal Leonard provided each band with a library of marching band charts of Metallica songs via sheetmusicdirect.com.

In a press release, WIU associate director of bands Matt Thomas said, “The Marching Leathernecks are some of the best students on campus, and it is great to see them be recognized for their hard work and the great things they regularly do.”

The Marching Leathernecks consist of students from almost every discipline on the WIU campus. The band is renowned for its sound and innovations which have impressed audiences throughout the Midwest. The Marching Leathernecks regularly provide support for many local and regional events.
