Young patrons can enjoy reading through Friends of Ralls County Library Fund Storywalk experience

CENTER, Mo. — Combining literacy and outdoor activity is what the Friends of the Ralls County Library Group envisioned when its started fundraising this winter for “Story Strolling with the Ralls County Library,” through which young patrons can enjoy a book while in their hometown park.
In a press release, president Jan Golian said, “StoryWalk is a win-win scenario. It is an opportunity for Friends of the Library to support the library’s mission statement of literacy and give back to the community by providing literacy experiences in town parks.”
Donations were accepted from community sponsors throughout Ralls County.
StoryWalk is a way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Pages from a children’s book are attached to frames, which are placed along an outdoor path. Story strolling requires the user to engage in physical activity as they move from page-to-page along a set path. Users can set the pace that best works for them to read through all of the storybook pages.
This project is a part of StoryWalk, created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt. For more information , visit https://kellogghubbard.org/programs-events/storywalk/.
The goal of the fundraiser is to provide literacy experiences outside the library in the city parks of Perry, Center and New London. Story frames will rotate between the three parks throughout the summer.
