Adams County Sheriff’s Department investigating fireworks explosion that injured two near Liberty

LIBERTY, Ill. — The Adams County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fireworks explosion that injured two people on Sunday.

Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department responded Sunday to the area of 2700 Ill. 104, east of Liberty, for an explosion. A preliminary investigation revealed a 34-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were injured due to an unknown type of firework exploding while the male was holding it in his hand.

The male was taken to Blessing Hospital with serious injuries. The female also was taken to Blessing with minor injuries.

The Illinois State Police, Adams County Ambulance, Liberty Fire Department and Payson Fire Department provided assistance.
