Advocacy Network for Children Holds Flag Raising and Awareness Event

QUINCY — Advocacy Network for Children held a flag raising and awareness event in honor of April being National Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month.  The ceremony honored child victims who have been abused, neglected, or have lost their life to abuse or neglect over the years.  It was also a reminder that by rallying our neighbors, businesses, schools, friends and families, we can make a difference in the lives of these children.

The event was held on Friday, April 1, at the Adams County Courthouse, 521 Vermont Street.  A local law enforcement Honor Guard raised the flag.   Mayor Michael Troup read a proclamation proclaiming April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Other speakers included Todd Shackelford, Executive Director of the Advocacy Network for Children, Gary Farha, Adams County State’s Attorney’s Office and Erik Dolieslager, Quincy Exchange Club.

Since opening its doors over 30 years ago, Advocacy Network for Children has advocated for thousands of abused and neglected children in Adams County through one of its two distinct programs, the Children’s Advocacy Center and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).  Protecting and upholding the rights of children when wrongs have been committed against them is the heart of its mission.
