Barry man sentenced to four years in Illinois Department of Corrections for failing to register as sex offender

BARRY, Ill. — A Barry man recently was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender.  

John R. Campbell, 39, was arrested on May 17, 2023, by Chief Deputy Zack Orr with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, who indicated he initiated a criminal investigation regarding a sex offender unlawfully residing at a residence in the 800 block of Front Street in Barry.

A bench trial was held on March 2 in Pike County, where Judge J. Frank McCartney found Campbell guilty of failure to register as a sex offender. Campbell was sentenced on May 21.

Campbell’s wife, Amanda B. Campbell, 36, of Quincy was arrested during the initial investigation on a charge of obstructing justice. She pled guilty on June 13, 2023, to a charge of obstructing justice and was sentenced to probation and fines.
