Blessing Hospital recognized nationally for patient safety
QUINCY — An independent national healthcare organization has given Blessing Hospital its top grade for patient safety.
The Leapfrog Group gave the hospital a grade “A” for the fall 2024 national survey period. Blessing was among fewer than 30% of hospitals nationwide and one of only 32 hospitals in Illinois to receive the top grade.
The Leapfrog Group assigns a letter grade of A through F to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. Grades are updated in the fall and spring.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to patients and their families. The entire community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Blessing Hospital leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
“Patient safety is of utmost priority and is our True North,” said Dr. Mary Frances Barthel, Chief Quality and Safety Officer of Blessing Health. “This is a level of care and commitment that patients deserve and should expect from their provider.
“A recent American Hospital Association report on patient safety highlighted the fact that hospitals are increasingly caring for a sicker, more complex patient population. To deliver exceptional safety to today’s patient requires the best processes in place for every caregiver to follow consistently. We are proud of our safety processes and our staff.”
Blessing Hospital earned patient safety “A” grades from Leapfrog during seven previous survey periods.
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for patient safety improvements, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the information needed to make informed decisions.
