California man killed in Hannibal hit-and-run

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A 21-year-old man from Yuba City, Calif. was killed Tuesday night after being struck in a hit-and-run incident near U.S. 61 and Route MM.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the parking lot of the Ayerco gas station at the intersection of U.S. 61 and Route MM in Hannibal. Authorities report the man was on foot when he was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The vehicle initially stopped, backed up, and then left the scene.

The victim was transported by Marion County Ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later.

The identity of the driver and the vehicle involved is currently unknown.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County Ambulance.
