Candlelight tours of John Wood Mansion available on five days in December

Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County

QUINCY — The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County is offering Christmas candlelight tours of the Gov. John Wood Mansion this year. This popular Quincy tradition allows visitors to step back in time and enjoy the beautifully decorated Greek Revival home of John Wood, Quincy’s founder.

Pandemic restrictions are forcing the tour group size to be limited for this year’s tours. Reservations are required. The theme, “Ghosts of Christmas Past,” will be featured throughout the tour of the home, with actors who portray John Wood, Anne Streeter Wood and Louise Maertz telling of their connection to the mansion and to Quincy. Light refreshments and holiday music will add to the festive nature of the event.

Candlelight Tours will be scheduled between 5 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11, 17, 18 and 26. Tour times are 5 p.m., 5:20 p.m., 5:40 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:20 p.m., 6:40 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tours will begin in the Visitors Center next to the mansion. Tour guides will take groups through the historic home.

Make reservations by contacting the HSQAC Office at 217-222-1835 or info@hsqac.org.

The Hal and Kathy Oakley Family is sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.
