Cause yet to be determined for structure fire in mobile home across street from Illinois Veterans Home on Monday morning
QUINCY — Investigators with the Quincy Fire Department determined that a Monday morning fire at 1714 McKinney, across 12th Street from the Illinois Veterans Home, originated in the area of the back door of a mobile home, but they could not determine a specific cause.
The first Quincy Fire Department crew arrived at the scene at 9:58 a.m. and found light smoke was coming from the home. They deployed a hose line and prepared to make entry. A second fire truck and the incident commander arrived, followed closely by the third fire truck, which stood by at the fire hydrant if additional water was needed. The first crew made entry and found smoke but no obvious fire. Firefighters pulled down part of the ceiling to find flames visible. They quickly extinguished the fire within five minutes.
The last fire suppression crew and the fire investigation team left the scene at 1:13 p.m.
Officers with the Quincy Police Department and Adams County Ambulance Service were on hand. No civilians or firefighters were injured at the scene. Fire damage was limited to the back door, and nearby ceiling and wall area.
Eleven firefighters were on the scene from two engines, a quint, the assistant chief and fire investigators.
