QUINCY — The Quincy Catholic Elementary Schools (QCES) Foundation recently announced the Chuck and Becky Scholz family has been selected as the recipient of the Friend of Catholic Education Award.

Chuck and Becky — along with their sons and spouses, Charles (and his wife Jamie) and Jake (and his wife Becca) — will be honored at the 14th annual Friend of Catholic Education Award dinner on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Atrium Hotel on Third.

Established in 2009, the award recognizes a person, couple, family or organization demonstrating unwavering commitment, dedication and outstanding service in fostering and strengthening Catholic education in the Quincy community.

In a press release, Elizabeth Brown, president of the QCES Foundation board, said, “This year’s Friend of Catholic Education Award holds special significance. Over the course of multiple generations, the Scholz family has consistently championed and supported Catholic education. The board recognized the significance of not only acknowledging the continuous dedication of the Scholz family to the schools but also truly appreciating the way they pass on and nurture that enduring passion.”

The Scholz family’s support of Quincy’s Catholic schools is generational beginning with Chuck’s parents. Charles A. Scholz, the inaugural recipient of the Friend of Catholic Education Award, was an invaluable contributor to the creation of both the Quincy Catholic Elementary Schools and Quincy Notre Dame Foundations. Nancy, his wife, was instrumental in the creation of the St. Peter School library, and they both helped co-found the Parochial Music Organization.

Chuck and Becky carried on the tradition of service and dedication to the Catholic schools by their involvement with St. Peter School as a room parent, CYO coach and member of the school board. Their children and spouses continue that tradition of service through various involvement at St. Peters. The family supported the creation of the St. Peter STEM lab in memory of Jake and Becca’s son Wilhelm Johnson Scholz.
