National Day of Prayer

QUINCY — The City of Quincy will recognize the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5.

A prayer breakfast with Quincy Mayor Mike Troup is scheduled for 7 a.m. at WTJR Studios, 220 N. Sixth. The City Hall parking lot will be the site of a public National Day of Prayer event at noon. If the weather is uncooperative, the event will take place in the council chambers of City Hall.

Pray.com has partnered with the National Day of Prayer Task Force to air its annual broadcast on television and radio, and streamed through social media, at 7 p.m. Thursday. For station and social media information, visit www.nationaldayofprayer.org.

The National Day of Prayer has been celebrated annually in the United States since 1952 when Congress created a joint resolution signed into law by President Harry Truman stating the president would dedicate one day each year for a national day of prayer. President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1988 designating the first Thursday in May as the annual observance.
