Commencement set for Saturday at QU; number of undergraduates dips for sixth straight year
QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University will host its 158th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 8, at Pepsi Arena (was QU Stadium).

Quincy University will host its 158th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 8, 2021, in Pepsi Arena at two different times, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Graduates had the choice to participate in ceremonies at 10:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. so participant and audience sizes could be restricted while following guidelines from the CDC and the Adams County Health Department. Masks are required for audience members, and social distancing will be practiced.
This year’s graduating class consists of 203 undergraduates, with an additional 27 graduate degree recipients. It is the sixth consecutive year that the number of undergraduates receiving degrees has declined at QU.

President Brian McGee will convene the ceremony and deliver this year’s commencement address. McGee has served as QU’s president since July 2019. He previously was the provost and executive vice president for several years at the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. He has more than 25 years of experience as a university administrator and professor, with stints at Spalding (Ky.) University, the University of Louisiana-Monroe and Texas Tech University.
The procession will be led by university marshal Rev. John Doctor, OFM, and assistant marshals David Kirchhofer, professor of physics, and Scott Luaders, professor of chemistry. Rev. William Spencer, OFM, director of campus ministry, will deliver the invocation, and Doctor will deliver the benediction.
Senior choir members Makayla Briggs, Courtney Crane, Joshua Crowl, Samuel Dus, Veronica Holtschlag, Nicole Maag, Brendan Nelson, Troy Potts, Rachel Reinbeck, David Webb and Jeffery Zellerman will perform the National Anthem and the Quincy University Alma Mater.
