Delays in federal financial aid process force Quincy University to adjust enrollment deadline
QUINCY — Quincy University recently announced temporary adjustments to its enrollment policies due to delays in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the U.S. Department of Education.
“In past years, admitted students who filed their FAFSA in the fall would have financial aid offers from many colleges on their short lists, including Quincy University, by now,” Tom Oliver, vice president for enrollment and senior director of student financial services, said in a press release. “Due to the challenges with the rollout of the new FAFSA, that is not the case this year.”
QU is extending its enrollment commitment deadline for prospective students from May 1 to June 1. The Office of Student Financial Services also will reach out to admitted students with directions on how they can submit financial paperwork to QU. This will generate a temporary financial aid estimate to help in their decision-making process.
Families can also use QU’s net price calculator to enter data and obtain a financial aid estimate at www.quincy.edu/netpricecalculator. Students still will be required to fill out the FAFSA to receive financial aid.
“All of us at QU share the concern and anxiety our prospective students and their families are feeling,” Oliver said. “While most institutions may not be able to provide this level of guidance before receiving FAFSA data, all of us at QU recognize that prospective students and their families have had enough inconvenience this year.”
Quincy University will work with students on a case-by-case basis who have challenges in meeting the June 1 decision date.
“We believe there is a need for QU to step up efforts to help families through their college discernment,” Oliver said. “We will provide as much flexibility as possible with deadlines and various steps needed to complete the enrollment process.”
