Details emerge on officer involved shooting in Macomb; two dead, including 4-year-old
MACOMB, Ill. — The Illinois State Police continues its investigation into a Macomb Police Officer involved shooting that occurred Saturday at approximately 10 p.m. when officers responded to a call of an active domestic disturbance in the 900 block of N. Charles.
The Macomb Police Department requested ISP investigate the incident.
After reviewing body worn camera video, evidence, witness interviews, and autopsy reports, preliminary investigative findings indicate officers encountered the subject with a knife. The subject then ducked out of view of officers and emerged holding a 4-year-old child in front of his body while holding a knife around the child’s throat and another around the waist.
Evidence shows an officer fired one shot from his firearm and both the subject and the child suffered fatal gunshot injuries.
According to the McDonough County Coroner, the adult subject is 57-year-old Anthony T. George. Per the coroner’s policy, juveniles’ names are not released.
ISP has met with the families of both the child and the subject. Once its investigation is final, ISP will provide all investigative reports and evidence to the McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
