QUINCY – The Quincy Public Schools Foundation announced Thursday that Executive Director Kent Embree has resigned, effective March 4.

Embree, who has served the foundation since 2017, has accepted a position as program officer at the Community Foundation Serving West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri.

“I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to lead the QPS Foundation and help it grow over the past four and a half years,” Embree said. “As a QHS alum, I’m thankful to have been able to help public education in Quincy. I’m looking forward to spending more time working directly with other non-profits in our region and promoting philanthropy to better serve them. It is important to me to continue working towards the betterment of communities in this area.”

While at the QPS Foundation, Embree has increased the operating fund more than sevenfold, helped raise more than $3.3 million and distributed more than $2.4 million to support to the Quincy Public School District.

“Our trustees and I have appreciated Kent’s leadership and efforts to leave the foundation stronger than it was when he started,” QPS Foundation board president Lindsay Ertel said. “We fully support his decision and have begun our search for an interim executive director.”
