Expansion at General Mills facility in Hannibal will add Old El Paso taco shell production line, creating 35 jobs

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Food manufacturer General Mills announced Wednesday that it will expand its manufacturing facility at 1 Red Devil Road in Hannibal, creating more than 35 jobs. The company’s expansion includes the addition of an Old El Paso hard-shell taco production line, increased square footage and infrastructure improvements.

“General Mills’ expansion in Hannibal is another example of our state’s status as a prime destination for world-class manufacturers,” Gov. Mike Parson said in a press release from the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED). “This company’s more than 50-year presence in northeast Missouri speaks to the region’s ability to support quality employers and drive economic growth.”

General Mills’ manufacturing facility in Hannibal produces food products across multiple categories and brands, including Nature Valley, Betty Crocker, Old El Paso and Progresso. The company’s Hannibal location has been in operation since 1972 and has undergone multiple expansions. It now employs more than 1,000 people.

“Hannibal is a key manufacturing facility for General Mills, and this latest investment will enable us to expand our footprint and grow our plant community,” General Mills Plant Manager Tim Johnson said. “We are extremely proud of our contributions to the local community and look forward to what the future has in store.”

New jobs added as part of General Mills’ expansion will pay an average wage well above the county average.

For this expansion, General Mills will benefit from the Missouri Works program, which helps companies expand and retain workers by providing access to capital through withholdings or tax credits for job creation. The company may receive assistance from Missouri One Start, a division of the Department of Economic Development, which assists eligible businesses with their recruitment and training needs.
