BASCO, Ill. — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday.

Hancock County 911 received a report at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 900 North and County Road 1900 East, just east of Basco.

A 2015 Honda SUV, driven by Misty L. Linski of Basco, was eastbound on County Road 900 North when the vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by Donna Hurt, also of Basco.

Linski was transported to Carthage Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. A male juvenile passenger in Linski’s vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, then later transferred to a hospital in Springfield for further treatment. Another passenger in the vehicle, Scott Webb of Basco, was transported to Blessing Hospital with moderate injuries.

Hurt and her passenger, a female juvenile from Basco, were transported to Blessing Hospital and later released.

A preliminary investigation indicates none of the occupants in Linski’s vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Both Hurt and the juvenile passenger in her vehicle were properly restrained.
