Friends of Justice receives $10,000 to put toward finding Dennis Green’s killer
QUINCY — An organization recently founded to offer rewards to help track down leads and eventually solve local cold cases has its first significant donation.
Friends of Justice CEO Jack Miller said an anonymous donor has contributed $10,000 for information that leads to the prosecution of the person responsible for the 2019 slaying of Dennis Green in Quincy.
Green, 53, was shot to death on the front porch of his home in January 2019. It was the city’s first homicide of that year.
Quincy Police responded to the 800 block of South 13th at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 6 and when they arrived, officers found Green’s body on his front porch.
News reports in the neighborhood at the time said a witness claimed to have watched a car pull up to Green’s porch followed by shots coming from the car. The autopsy showed the case of death was two gunshot wounds to the head.
Green was the father of eight children and left behind a wife, Amy.
Miller said if the information provided a solid and credible lead that led to a conviction, that person would be eligible for the $10,000 reward.
“We’d pay the whole thing if it works out,” Miller said. “The donor was clear about that was what he wanted to do.”
Friends of Justice was formed last month in an attempt to resolve a number of cold cases in the community. Besides Green’s case, the others are:
- Michael McAfee – The 20-year-old’s body was found in the South Bottoms in May 1993.
- Antoine Hunt – He was shot and killed in his N. 5th Street apartment in 2005.
- Clyde Jackson – He was shot and killed in the Cedar Creek Crossing Apartment parking lot at 2225 North 12th Street in 2008.
- Nancy Streitmatter – Her remains were found in a building that had been destroyed by fire at 219 Oak Street in 2012.
Miller said donations can be made by cash, check or money order and can go toward the non-profit organization or specific cases, as this donation is intended for Green’s case.
