Friends of the Castle to meet Sept. 14 at Villa Kathrine
QUINCY — Friends of the Castle, Inc., will hold the organization’s annual meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 on the lawn of the Villa Kathrine, 532 Gardner Expressway. Social time will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Topics to be covered will be the state of the organization, financial health, election of board members and visitor statistics. Members also can renew memberships. Highlights of the most recent improvements to the building will be discussed, as well as future developments. The meeting will conclude with the recognition of volunteers, including the volunteer of the year, and tours of the building.
Friends of the Castle, Inc., was founded in 1978. It is a not-for-profit organization that works to restore, maintain and operate the Villa Kathrine. It has served since 1987 as Quincy’s official tourist information center and as an interpretative center on the Great River Road.
The Villa Kathrine in operated by a volunteer board of directors and hosts. It is on the National Registry of Historic Place, the Illinois Registry of Historic Places and a Quincy Landmark property. Volunteer hosts are needed to help staff the tourist information center daily. Shift days and hours are flexible. Volunteers over age 21 are welcome.
