Gun found at Payson-Seymour High School during basketball game

PAYSON, Ill. — A gun was found in a restroom at Payson-Seymour High School Tuesday night during a basketball game.

An Adams County Sheriff’s deputy was at the game working an extra duty assignment and was told that an unattended gun was in a restroom at the school. The deputy recovered the firearm in question without further incident.

The owner of the gun was located and fully cooperated with the investigation. The firearm was seized as part of the investigation and the owner was issued a summons for unlawful use of a weapon and a trespass warning for school property.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports there were no threats made to any students attending or participating in the basketball game, the fans in attendance, or the public in general pertaining to this incident.
