Hannibal Fire Department responds to overnight house fire

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A pet was rescued from a burning home in Hannibal overnight.

Just after 3 a.m., the Hannibal Fire Department responded to 1321 Vermont for a report of a
structure fire. All stations responded with eight on duty crew members and an additional seven off-duty firefighters. Heavy fire was coming from the roof and second story of the building and all occupants were able to exit safely prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Firefighters quickly made an interior attack and were able to knock the bulk of the fire down in approximately 30 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene for three more hours putting out hot spots

One pet was rescued from the home during the fire and one firefighter was treated for injuries at the scene by Marion County Ambulance District and released.

The incident was investigated by the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office and ruled accidental.

HFD was also assisted at the scene by the Marion County Ambulance District, Hannibal Board of Public Works, City of Hannibal Building Inspector and the Hannibal Police Department.
