Hannibal man arrested after allegedly assaulting female inside car at Ayerco Truck Stop in Canton
CANTON, Mo. — A Hannibal man recently arrested on an assault charge also was charged with drug offenses as well.
A witness reported to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department on Nov. 24 seeing a male assaulting a female inside a vehicle at the Ayerco Truck Stop in Canton. The vehicle left the scene. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the area and eventually located the suspect and victim in the same vehicle in downtown Canton.
After further investigation, Tayler D. Burgess, 24, was arrested for domestic assault. Law enforcement officials also found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Lewis County Prosecutor Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges in the Lewis County Associate Court on Nov. 25, charging Burgess with:
- Domestic assault in the third degree, a class E felony;
- Possession of a controlled substance, (methamphetamine), a class D felony;
- No valid driver’s license, a class D misdemeanor;
- Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a class D misdemeanor.
Burgess remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Monday.
