Hannibal man jailed, faces two charges after allegedly striking motorcyclist while driving truck

HANNIBAL, Mo. — A Hannibal man was charged on Sunday, Sept. 10 with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

An officer with the Hannibal Police Department saw a male lying on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Broadway with serious injury to one of his legs at approximately 8:19 p.m. Saturday. 

Several witnesses said the injured male was riding a motorcycle east on Broadway and was struck by a pickup truck that was being driven by Robert E. Hinton, 56. After striking the motorcycle, Hinton left the scene. 

Officers eventually located Hinton, who was still driving the truck in the area of Broadway and Summit. Hinton was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Marion County Jail. Hinton’s bond was set at $25,000. He remains in the Marion County Jail.   

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.
