Hannibal Police arrest man allegedly carrying meth after bicycle chase

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Hannibal Police arrested a man Tuesday after he attempted to elude them on his bicycle.

Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, an officer was patrolling the 2300 block of Chestnut and saw a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk. The officer believed the rider was Jeffery R Dietle, 33, of Hannibal, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Dietle saw the patrol car and began to pedal faster while making numerous evasive maneuvers in attempt to elude the officer. The initiating officer was able to position himself in Dietle’s path and pull him off of the bicycle.

Dietle was found in possession of what is believed to be methamphetamine at the time of his arrest. He was taken to the Marion County Jail on the active Marion County and Pike County Illinois Dangerous Drug warrants. Dietle then received for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting/Interfering with Arrest.

He remains in the Marion County Jail.
