HANNIBAL, Mo. —  Students and staff at the Hannibal Public School District are mourning the loss of a student who died in a car accident Friday night.

Fourteen-year-old Paiton Elliot was a freshman at Hannibal High School.

In a statement sent Monday morning, Superintendent of Hannibal Public Schools Susan Johnson said “the staff and school counselors are on hand and available to support and visit with students impacted by this event.”

“We are deeply saddened by the death of our student, Paiton Elliot. Our thoughts are with Paiton’s family and friends,” Johnson continued. “All of us with the Hannibal Public Schools care deeply for our students.”

Johnson also encouraged parents who would like resources on how to support their child during this difficult time to contact their school administrator or guidance office.
