Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County celebrates 125th anniversary

Dozens of lawn chairs dotted the lawn of the John Wood Mansion at 12th and State as the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams Countycelebrated 125th anniversary year with a Calftown Cookout and picnic on Sunday.

Jukebox Reloaded

President Abraham Lincoln (or Max Daniels of Wheaton, Ill. portraying the late president) was in attendance to enjoy live music from Jukebox Reloaded, food and beverages, free tours of the historic home and self-guided walking tours of Calftown.

David Costigan, the Historical Society’s historian in residence and a long-time member, signed and sold copies of his recently published book, “A City in Wartime: Quincy, Illinois and the Civil War” at Sunday’s event.

The mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
