Historical Society’s tours of Woodland Cemetery begin Saturday

QUINCY — The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County’s ghost tours of Woodland Cemetery, 1020 S. Fifth, will be offered throughout October.

The walking event, scheduled on Saturdays plus Halloween night, will take you back into Quincy’s historic past. The tours will feature experienced guides who will lead you on two separate and entertaining tours through the cemetery. Guided tours this year will focus on Quincy’s Underground Railroad and Quincy and the Civil War. The Golden Age of the Gem City Tours will feature re-enactors at the gravesites of Quincyans who were prominent during the city’s Golden Age.

The tour schedule will be:

October 2 and 16 – Road to Freedom-Underground Railroad – Guided tours at 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

October 9 and 31 – Quincy and the Civil War – Guided tours at 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

October 23 and 30 – Golden Age of the Gem City – Tours every 20 minutes from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost for a tour is $15 a person. Group sizes are limited this year. It is important to call the HSQAC office for a reservation at (217) 222-1835.

The ghost tours are one of the Historical Society’s most important fundraisers of the year. The proceeds support the preservation of the Gov. John Wood Mansion and the History Museum on the Square.
